How to Feed Your Bengal Cat A Healthy Diet

If you have a Bengal cat (or any cat for that matter), then I’m sure it is important to you to keep your kitty as happy as can be. It is likely that you want your Bengal to have a long life, minimal visits to the vet, minimal health issues, minimal behavioral issues, and to be a thriving being in your home.

One of the things you can do to keep your Bengal happy and healthy is to feed him a healthy diet.

What makes for a healthy diet?

Most animals are healthiest when their diet mimics what they would eat in the wild. Simply put, cats are carnivores. They eat meat, not plants. The problem with this, is that when we bring cats into our homes, it isn’t exactly desirable to bring in live rodents for them to kill and eat. Instead, many cat owners feed their cats a diet consisting of commercial cat food.

What’s wrong with most commercial cat foods?

While commercial cat food is very practical, easy, and even recommended by most veterinarians, most of it is far from what Bengals would eat in the wild. While cats eat meat in the wild, most commercial cat foods that are available in stores contain a high percentage of grains, fruits, vegetables, preservatives, food coloring, artificial flavors and other ingredients that a cat would not naturally eat. This poses some serious health risks including obesity, diabetes, urinary tract issues, and many more.

Hi my bengal stared suffering from uti’s. Very similar to yours. My vet suggested a Urinary prescription food. But I want to start him on a raw diet. I was wondering if I should start by transitioning him with a mix of his went food with some raw meat, or should I just switch right away?

I had a beautiful snow marble Bengal boy for 17 years (he died peacefully in my daughters arms when he was 19). ‘Manguwaewae’ was the most interesting/lovable/amazing/different cat I have ever had…& I have had a few. He liked to drink his water out of a cocktail glass, pick up his meat with his claws and eat it from his paw, loved cuddles – on HIS terms. If anyone picked him up without permission, he would let out a blood curdling meeooowww that terrified the unknowing person into quickly ‘dropping’ him! He was the King of our household, with everyone… Read more »

I have been wondering how to feed my boy. I actually found him in a humane society. He is the first cart I have had that prefers raw meat. I have been trying desperately to find him the best food but hard to do. I will watch this and see your suggestions…. I have tried many things but he hates almost all commercial cast food, and I can see why. Most if pure crap. Thanks!
